Here’s everything about me, Thomas Tolenaar.
A little summary about me
Hi, my name is Thomas Tolenaar and I’m a 19 year old User Experience Design student, UXD for short. My passion is designing apps, websites, documents and more. I love turning complex problems into simple, enjoyable user experiences that make people’s lives a bit easier. I was born in Germany and lived there for almost 13 years. Since december 2018, I’ve lived in the Netherlands. In my free time I love traveling the world and meeting different cultures. Organizing events and meeting friends is also something I enjoy doing.

Research
Doing research is often overlooked but is just as important as design. There are plenty of research methods I’ve used, including but not limited to:
Interviews
Conducting meaningful interviews.
Usability testing
Testing a product and processing feedback.
Data analysation
Analyzing data and finding trends.
And more
Observations, A/B testing,
Design
Although I enjoy doing research, I like to design even more. I know many design skills. Here’s a small overview of some of the design skills I mastered:
Interaction design
How does something work, not only look?
Working with guidelines
Creating or following design guidelines
Lo-Fi / Hi-Fi prototyping
Creating drafts to ready for development.
And more
Responsive design, wireframing and using design systems
Tools
Tools I frequently use are:
Figma
My go-to tool for everything design related.
Microsoft 365 suite
I know the Microsoft 365 suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint inside out.
Miro
Mostly for research and collaboration.
And more
I’ve also used tools like Whimsical, Notion, Trello and Adobe XD.
Communication & more
There are some more skills that I have and might be good to know:
Presenting
Presenting & storytelling.
Multilingual
I speak Dutch, German and English fluently.
Video editing
I have some video editing skills (Final Cut Pro X).
Basic programming
I have basic programming knowledge and a logical mindset. I’ve worked with Java, Javascript, Processing, Arduino and HTML+CSS.
Where I still want to improve myself
There are still plenty of tools I haven’t used but want to discover, including learning how to use the Adobe suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, After effects and more).
